The VCU Libraries would like to announce two new additions to the VCU
Libraries Digital Collections (http://dig.library.vcu.edu/index.php):

The VCU Oral History Archive
(http://dig.library.vcu.edu/cdm4/index_ohi.php?CISOROOT=/ohi) is an
ongoing collection of searchable oral histories presented as MP3s with
text transcriptions in PDF form. This first phase includes 10 complete
interviews online with 3 individuals:
--Kathleen Cabell: With her husband Royal E. Cabell, Jr., she
relocated Union Hill, the 1770s Cabell family home, from Nelson County
to Goochland County 1980 and began a lengthy restoration process. Mr.
Cabell, who passed away in 1999, was a prominent attorney and political
activist. Mrs. Cabell is an authority on Goochland County and Cabell
family history. Included with her interview are over 40 photographs
depicting various architectural details of Union Hill.
--Dr. J. Maurice Duke: A Professor of English at VCU for over 30 years,
Dr. Duke was instrumental in VCU's acquisition of Richmond author James
Branch Cabell's library. He authored several works on Virginia history
and literature and was a photographer and book page editor for the
Richmond Times-Dispatch. He is presently staff historian for the
Alliance to Conserve of Old Richmond Neighborhoods.
--Dr. Francis Merrill Foster, Sr.: Dr. Foster is known as the historian
of Jackson Ward, the historically African-American Richmond neighborhood
where he had a successful dental practice over 40 years. A graduate of
Virginia Union University and Howard University, his relationship with
VCU began as a post-retirement volunteer with VCU's dental clinic and he
became an assistant professor and admissions advisor.

The Robertson Hospital Register (http://dig.library.vcu.edu/index.php)
is a database of entries from the logbook of patients admitted between
August 3, 1861 and April 2, 1865 at the Robertson Hospital, a small,
private Civil War hospital financially subsidized by the Confederate
government. Located in the house of Judge John Roberts at the northwest
corner of 3rd and Main Streets in Richmond, Virginia, the hospital was
run by Captain Sally Louisa Tompkins, and was in operation from late
July 1861 until June 1865. This collection, updated from its previous
online version, is a searchable database of all of the entries in the
handwritten register, including patient name and rank, regiment and
company information, admission and dismissal dates, and medical reason
for admission.
