The late Joseph C. Robert was working on full length biography of William
Wirt -- Richard Beale Davis mentioned the project in 1970 as did Robert
himself in 1972 as noted below.

In 1972 he published a fine summary of the first half of Wirt's life --
entitled "William Wirt, Virginian" -- in volume 80 of the *Virginia
Magazine of History and Biography*.

In a note, Professor Robert stated his intention of publishing the second
half under the title "William Wirt, American." Searches in WorldCat, VHS,
LVA, UVA catalogues turn up nothing under that title.(Though obviously one
finds Robert's well known books and a few other articles.)

I'm curious. Does anyone know whether the announced article survives
somewhere? Or perhaps unpublished portions of Robert's projected
full-length biography?
