Editorial/Research Assistant (Full-time). [Position # 767] The Thomas Jefferson Foundation seeks an editorial/research assistant to join the staff of the Papers of Thomas Jefferson: Retirement Series. This position will support print and electronic publication of Jefferson's correspondence. Responsibilities are varied and include: tracking down and copying research materials; answering a wide range of research questions; checking stages of editorial output, including galleys and page proofs; checking annotation; participating in textual verification of handwritten manuscripts; and other projects as assigned.
Qualifications:  Requirements include a strong grasp of documentary editing techniques; knowledge of early nineteenth-century American history; ability to accurately read a wide range of difficult handwritten historical texts; demonstrated resourcefulness in tracking down and synthesizing information in a wide range of institutions and historical sources; strong communication skills, keyboarding accuracy, and familiarity with Internet search tools and resources. A Bachelor's degree in history with strong evidence of primary source research experience may be acceptable, but a Master's degree in history, or a related field, and equivalent research experience is highly preferred.
