Lyle & JS,

Thank you for the former name of the James River. It makes sense with the 
large town of Powhatan near Richmond.

I just got a copy of the Jamestown Narratives this morning, and, again, it 
says the river was called Powhatan by the Natives. When the English first 
came, they called it the King's  River, but changed it sometime to James.

I am finding the Narrative interesting reading, and thank whichever person 
recommended it.
