The adoption of sons who became rulers is as old as Augustus adopting Tiberius in 4 BC to become his heir and the ruler or Rome. Illegitimate sons could become kings if so-designated by the king. See William of Normandy who became William I of England, et. seq. (William the bastard was the illegitimate and only son of Robert I, Duke of Normandy who named him as heir to Normandy)

Thanks for attempting to correct me, however.

J South
