This is my favorite search engine. Type, "intinerant preachers" and go  
through the sites provided.
  I found that an intinerant preacher was one of the Methodist faith  who was 
somewhat of a missionary of the religion, who was not ordained and could  not 
administer the sacraments, but could preach the word of the Lord. This was  
before the Revolutionary War. From what I understand, there still may be  
itinerant preachers, not necessarily of the Methodist faith.
