Lewis Morgan was paid as a reader for Camden Parish in Pittsylvania  
County. That would be for the Anglican Church and his pay would have  
come from the parish levy assessed throughout the parish. Baptist and  
Methodist or Presbyterians would have been responsible for their own  
ministerial costs during the colonial era and likely still had to pay
