RELIC PRESENTS -  UPCOMING PROGRAMS

Following are upcoming programs at Bull Run Regional Library related to
local history and genealogy.  Regular times for monthly programs are the
fourth Tuesday of each month (except December) at 7:30 p.m.  Group
programs are held in the Library's community room.  Sign language
interpretation of library programs is available if requested three weeks
in advance.  Funding for RELIC programs is supported by grants from the
Friends of the Central and Bull Run Libraries.  

Saturday, April 1 - RELIC After Dark Special Event - It's not too late
to register.

Tuesday, April 25 - Cemetery Preservation and Research.

Friday, April 28 - Resources of the Library of Virginia.

Thursday, May 23 - Getting Started with Family History.

The Genealogy Doctor is In -  First and third Thursday of each month.

RELIC AFTER DARK - A Very Special Event

The Ruth E. Lloyd Information Center (RELIC) will host the second annual
RELIC After Dark, Saturday, April 1, 2006, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Bull Run
Run Regional Library in Manassas.  RELIC is Prince William County's
special collection for genealogy and local history.  Price of admission,
$25, includes a buffet of hearty hors d'oeuvres, assorted beverages
(including sodas, beer, wine, and coffee) and desserts.  Also on the
menu:  a talk by Dr. Thomas W. Jones of the National Genealogical
Society on 'The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Genealogists,' and a
welcome by Library Director Dick Murphy.  Free printing will be offered
from library resources.  Door prizes will be drawn.  We suggest dressy
casual wear.  This is an opportunity to become familiar with and use the
library's research facilities after normal hours.  Those resources
include books, serials, microfilm, electronic databases and internet
services, with the assistance of library staff.  To register for this

collection development and preservation.

Dr. Jones is currently co-editor of the National Genealogical Society
Quarterly and is a trustee of the Board of Certification for
Genealogists.  He is a genealogical educator who speaks and writes
frequently on genealogical evidence, proof and problem solving.

CEMETERY PRESERVATION AND RESEARCH

Gravestone inscriptions are important sources of genealogical data, as
well as objects of artistic value.  Learn more about cemetery
preservation and research from Dick and Dorothy Bishop, members of the
Association for Gravestone Studies.  This program will be help on
Tuesday, April 25, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Bull Run Library's
community room.

FOCUS ON VIRGINIA RESEARCH:

RESOURCES OF THE LIBRARY OF VIRGINIA

Minor T. Weisiger, Archives Research Coordinator, and Ginny Dunn,
Library Manager, of the Library of Virginia will present a double bill:
Tour the Library of Virginia's Award-Winning Website (1:30-2:30 p.m.)
and Specialized Resources for Virginia Genealogy (3:00-4:00 p.m.)

GETTING STARTED WITH FAMILY HISTORY

There is much you can do close to home to compile your family history.
Learn the basics of genealogy, including important resources and
techniques, from the RELIC staff.  This program will be presented on
Tuesday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m., at the Bull Run Regional Library
community room.

THE GENEALOGY DOCTOR IS IN

 

Schedule a private, 30-minute visit with RELIC's Don Wilson for tips on
starting your own research or to discuss and analyze an historical or
genealogical problem that has stumped you.  First and Third Thursdays of
each month, 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon.

Choice of times:  10:00, 10:45, 11:30 a.m.
