AMERICAN REVOLUTION ROUND TABLE of RICHMOND

Before Alexander Hamilton disappears from the $10 bill, be sure to join us and learn of his importance in the founding of the country! On Wednesday, November 18, previous speaker Tony Williams will return to present Washington and Hamilton: The Alliance That Forged America, based on his book. Tony has previously spoken about the Hurricane of Independence and Inoculation during the Revolution. We gather at 5:30 for dinner in the Heilman Dining Center of the University of Richmond, with the meeting beginning at 6:30. Details are here. http://arrt-richmond.blogspot.com/p/2013-meeting-schedule.html. Also check our 2016 speakers. Please spread the word and bring a friend.

Here’s information from the Library of Virginia concerning DAR efforts to preserve Revolutionary War payment records. http://www.virginiamemory.com/blogs/out_of_the_box/2015/11/04/dar-sponsorship-to-preserve-records-of-revolutionary-war-payments/

This is a C-SPAN presentation by Bob Selig, an ARRT friend, on the March to Yorktown. http://www.c-span.org/video/?327130-1/discussion-march-yorktown

As a follow up to Mark Lender’s great August talk on Benedict Arnold in Richmond, our next ARRT-Richmond field trip will visit some of the sites that Mark described. He and John Maass will lead the trip on Saturday, April 2, 2016. Mark your calendars. Details will be forthcoming in the new year.

In 2011, Phil Greenwalt spoke to us about the Maryland Continentals. Check Phil’s new blog The Emerging Revolutionary War Era here. http://emergingrevolutionarywar.org/. You might want to consider contributing. Phil is working on an ARRT page, highlighting all our groups.

Both March, 2016 and the 5th Annual Conference of the American Revolution in Williamsburg is fast approaching. Check Bruce and Lynne Venter’s impressive line up of speakers here. http://americashistoryllc.com/2015/5th-annual-conference-of-the-american-revolution/ This gathering has quickly become the premier AR conference. It sold out last year, so do not miss 2016. And you’ll also be supporting our business member America’s History LLC. Thanks to them.

And thanks to our small, but very creative publicity committee, we are looking at new venues in which to publicize ARRT-Richmond. Mark Groth, Karen Chase, and Walt Pulliam have developed new publicity strategies. If you have ideas, please share them with these folks either at a meeting or through our site. And for you Face Bookers, we’re back right here. https://www.facebook.com/American-Revolution-Round-Table-Richmond-210690742278769/?fref=ts Say something nice about us!

We are pleased that Mike Harris will be joining us in July, 2016, to receive our 2015 Book Award and speak about the Battle of Brandywine. The Book Award committee of Mark Lender, Lynn Sims, and Tyler Whitley is beginning work for next year. Details are here. http://arrt-richmond.blogspot.com/p/book-award.html If you have read a good candidate, be sure to nominate it to one of the members. Much thanks to this trio of gentlemen for making this award work.

See you on November 18 to hear about the Indispensible Man and the Little Lion

Bill Welsch
