Not a non sequitor at all. I was referring to Mr. Kiracofe's  
statement in his last post that  "...the remedy for preventing  
Gabriel's (intended) violence was in the hands of white Virginians  
who refused to end the institution of slavery." Was that not a  
purported cause for the Civil War? I just don't want the list to  
repeat the arguments that have already been made.
