PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY HISTORIC SITES FILES BEING PUT ONLINE

RELIC is pleased to announce significant progress in a new digital
project on our website.  Go to
<http://www.pwcgov.org/library/digitalLibrary/index.htm>  and click on
Historic Sites Documentation Index.  There you can access images of
papers related to historic sites in Prince William County, including
survey reports, photographs, plans, field notes, and news articles.
Currently we have uploaded sites with names alphabetically A through K.
This includes sites with incomplete surveys.   For more information
about Prince William sites, see also Historic Sites Records Report, an
alphabetic guide to places in Prince William County with sources of
information.

            

RELIC PROGRAMS

Here are our latest offerings.  Funding for RELIC programs is provided
by the Friends of Central and Bull Run Libraries.  Sign language
interpretation is available for Prince William Public Library programs
if requested at least three weeks in advance.  To be notified of

BREAKING DOWN THOSE GENEALOGICAL AFRICAN AMERICAN BRICK WALLS
Presented by Char McCargo Bah

African-American family history presents special obstacles to
researchers.   Slavery, name changes and destruction of records are all
difficulties you are likely to encounter.  Char McCargo Bah of Stafford,
Virginia, has been researching her own roots for more than 26 years.
She has become a frequent lecturer on African American genealogical
research and has appeared on regional television.  On Tuesday, November
16, she will present her program  "Breaking Down Those Genealogical
African American Brick Walls," at Bull Run Regional Library beginning at
7 p.m.

ANALYZING ESTATE INVENTORIES FOR GENEALOGICAL INFORMATION
Presented by Charlotte Cain

The contents of a deceased ancestor's household (such items as
furniture, tools, livestock, clothing, and books) may provide detailed
information about his or her daily life and occupations.  In addition,
learning who bought or inherited those goods may help determine family
relationships.   Local researcher Charlotte Cain will demonstrate how a
thorough examination of estate inventories can hold important clues for
one's family history at a program at Bull Run Regional Library on
Thursday, December 9, at 11 a.m.
