Slavery might have been one of the underlying issue that drove the State
right issue... but slavery is an issue of power and economics...still I
believe it was one of a number of factors that cause the spilt. This spilt
started with Wilmot Provisos(sp) (a slavery issue raised because they wanted
to get back a POLK's party)....and only got worse as every difference between
the North and South became something to argue over.......we still doing it
today
