This is where specialized scholarly encyclopedias come in handy. There are
at least two to recommend for answers to the questions posed about slavery
and the slave trade in Africa:

Seymour Drescher and Stanley Engerman, eds., A Historical Guide to World
Slavery (1998); and

Paul Finkelman and Joseph Miller, eds., Macmillan Encyclopedia of World
Slavery (1998).
