Author Susan Schmidt will be at the Library of Virginia at noon, on Tuesday,
March 13, 2007, to talk about her book, _Landfall along the Chesapeake_. In
2002, Schmidt retraced John Smith's 1608 voyage on the Chesapeake Bay.
She will discuss her account of her 100-day, 2,500-mile, mostly-solo
adventure navigating a 22-foot boat. Her daily ship's log weaves history and
science, weather and seamanship. She explores Smith's encounters with
Native Americans and the bay's ecological changes over four hundred years. A
book signing will follow. Please join us for this special event.

Best,

Katie Gillespie
