In a last ditch effort of hopes that someone can connect with this
family or knows some background, I am seeking people with knowledge
about a Capt. Charles Wills born c.1775 in Isle of Wight county, VA and
died 1820 in Richmond, VA. He was married to a Sarah (with last name
starting with the letter B). His parents were Josiah Wills and Mary
Driver. Charles served in the war of 1812 and built his house directly
afterwards in Church Hill which still stands. He was a wealthy grocer
merchant and had several stores including one near where the current
Farmer's Market is on Main St.

Contrary top belief, I have found no connection of his being a sea
captain but a Capt.. in the local militia. His son though, Josiah
Wills, was a bank president in Norfolk and with a partner owned some
wharfs and a small passenger steamship company but he died young of
Yellow Fever in 1855.

Also, I am hoping to find some early photos or sketches of the house
prior to 1930s as we are gearing up to celebrate its 200-year
anniversary.

Any help or leads appreciated! Thanks!

And BTW... I was able to find a portrait of the younger Josiah Wills
done in the 1830s but also understand the same artist did one of his
brother Charles Wills Jr. - who was the clerk of Henrico for several
years but too died young in 1839. have not been able to find that one
yet. Anyone??
