Pulitzer Prize-winning author Geraldine Brooks will discuss and sign
People of the Book. Inspired by a true story, People of the Book is at
once a novel of sweeping historical grandeur and intimate emotional
intensity.

Law Touched Our Hearts: A Generation Remembers Brown v. Board of
Education
Time: Noon-1:00 PM
Place: Conference Rooms
FREE EVENT
Editors Mildred W. Robinson and Richard J. Bonnie will offer an overview
of the moving stories of those who attended public school soon after the
Brown v. The Board of Education decision and saw the course of their
lives and their society change. These personal accounts of how Brown
affected them say much about race relations then and now. Robinson is
Henry L. & Grace Doherty Charitable Foundation Professor at the
University of Virginia School of Law. Bonnie is Harrison Foundation
Professor of Medicine and Law, Hunton & Williams Research Professor, and
director of the Institute of Law, Psychiatry & Public Policy at the
University of Virginia. A book signing will follow the talk.

2009 African American Trailblazers in Virginia History: Program and
Reception
Time: 6:00 PM-7:30 PM
Place: Lecture Hall
FREE EVENT
Eight honorees-five historical (deceased) figures from the 17th through
the 20th centuries as well as three contemporary African Americans-who
have had a significant impact on the history of Virginia will be honored
at this celebration hosted by Daphne Maxwell Reid. A reception follows
the program. FREE but reservations required. Seating is limited. Call
