of Fauquier County records, including personal property tax lists
1782-1850 and wills 1759-1904. 

 

 

8TH ANNUAL RELIC AFTER DARK TO FEATURE 

GENEALOGIST MEGAN SMOLENYAK 

 

Nationally-known genealogist Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak has agreed to
return for the eighth annual RELIC After Dark, our special event
scheduled for the evening of Saturday, September 29, 2012.    She last
was our guest speaker in 2007.  She is the author of six books,
including Hey America, Your Roots Are Showing, and Who Do You Think You
Are?  She has appeared on national television many times.  See her

Dark her talk will be "Cases That Made My Brain Hurt."     

This gala event will last from 7 to 11 p.m.  The cost is $25 per person,
and will include a buffet dinner with assorted beverages and desserts,
an opportunity to conduct personal research, and complimentary printing
from microfilm and electronic resources.  We are now accepting
reservations.  Space is limited so early registration is recommended.
Suggested attire is dressy casual.  Checks should be made payable to
Prince William Public Library System (or PWPLS), with "RELIC After Dark"

RELIC PROGRAMS 

 

Here are our latest offerings.  Funding for RELIC programs is provided
by the Friends of Central and Bull Run Libraries.  Sign language
interpretation is available for Prince William Public Library programs
if requested at least three weeks in advance.  To be notified of

"IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK" - 

RESEARCHING LAND TITLES 

AND THE HISTORY OF YOUR HOME 

Presented by Don Wilson 

 

RELIC's Don Wilson will demonstrate how to use the records available to
us to discover when a house was built and the history of the land.  The
chain of ownership may go back hundreds of years.  You can also use this
technique to learn where your ancestors lived.  This program will be
presented on Thursday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Bull Run Regional Library
and will last about an hour.  It will be repeated on Tuesday, July 24,
at 7 p.m.

USING HISTORICAL TIMELINES TO ADD DEPTH 

TO YOUR GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH 

Presented by Phyllis Legare 

 

            Genealogist Phyllis Legare will demonstrate how to enhance
your family's history by including more than just names, dates and
places.    She will offer suggestions about how to interweave
appropriate historical data to enrich your understanding of your
ancestors' lives and choices.  Discussion will encompass timelines, how
to create them and how to find the appropriate historical data to
include there. 

This program will be presented on Tuesday, June 19, at 7 p.m., at Bull

GENEALOGY 201:  BEYOND THE BASICS

Presented by Tish Como

            

Genealogy 101 introduced basic resources and techniques for researching
your family's history.   Genealogy 201 presents alternate resources to
enhance your family's history and advanced search techniques to help
maximize your results from online databases including census records,
passenger lists, maps, and books.   RELIC's Tish Como will present this
program on Thursday, July 12,  at 11 a.m., in the Bull Run Library
community room.

Second Campaign of Manassas - August 1862 

Presented by Ron Mayer 

 

Military historian Ron Mayer will use visual aides to tell why and how
the Second Battle of Manassas (Bull Run) occurred and to explain the
ramifications of the actions of the two competing Generals, Lee and
Pope.  This is the 150th anniversary of that major Civil War campaign. 

Ron Mayer is a retired Air Force officer, a member of the Bull Run Civil
War Roundtable and founded the Heritage Hunt Civil War Discussion Group.


            This program will be presented on Thursday, August 9, at 11
a.m. at Bull Run Regional Library and will last about an hour.  It will
be repeated on Tuesday, August 21, at 7 p.m.  To reserve a seat for this

"Genealogy Doctor" Accepting Appointments for Research Help 

 

Don Wilson, head of RELIC (the Ruth E. Lloyd Information Center for
genealogy and local history at Bull Run Regional Library), sets aside
time each month for  free private sessions to mentor persons researching
their family history.  A thirty-minute session can be used to discuss
and analyze an historical or genealogical problem that has stumped you.


 

Daytime and evening hours are possible.  To set up an appointment,
