Hello,

I am new to this listserv, but after reviewing the past topics of
discussion, I thought that it might be helpful and/or interesting to some
here for me to share a project to catalog Virginia's historical markers
that I have been working on for the past few years.

I have traveled much of the state photographing and taking GPS coordinates
of the various historical markers in Virginia (and some in other states
that I have come across). This data is incorporated into my web site
located at http://www.historical-markers.org The project includes an
interactive web map which shows the location of each marker along with
photographs, text descriptions and location directions for each marker
loaded. To date, I have recorded over 1,200+ VA markers (1,600+ total) on
the site and I hope to visit and include the approximately 1,000-1,500
remaining Virginia markers in the coming months.

To my knowledge, this is the largest collection of such data (with respect
to Virginia's markers) available on the Internet. I hope that it can be a
useful resource for those on this list, if not then at least an
interesting diversion. I welcome any feedback, ideas, or suggestions to
help improve the site.

Kind Regards,
Jason O. Watson
