My father, Frank Sheldon, served in the ARmy Coast Artillery after being
drafted in Aug. of 1941. I know he served near Virginia Beach, Topsail Beach
in NC, Savannah and somewhere in Fla. AT one point he was sent to Puerto
Rico. There are still some of the cement guard towers that were built during
the war along the coast. Good examples are in Delaware, between Dewey and
Bethany Beach. He eventually went to OCS and served  in the Army Air Corps
for the duration of the war.

A google search for "coast artillery" brings up some interesting
information. First on the list is:
