I would think that any friend she had would be mixed-race. If I'm not mistaken, every person I know is of mixed-race in one form or another.

Is there a list of words that should not be used? If there is, why are they words at all?

My daughter (in her 20s) informed me years ago that "mulatto" was considered insulting by her mixed-race friends.
