Good Morning,

In preparation for the construction of the new Slover Memorial Library complex which includes renovation of the Seaboard Building, the Norfolk Main Library, and along with it, the Sargeant Memorial Collection, will be closing on November 1, 2011. (Link to Information about our new library: http://www.newmanarchitects.com/project.html?pid=185<https://webmail.norfolk.gov/owa/redir.aspx?C=3fb08b60eea0403394704c7f864fb010&URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.newmanarchitects.com%2fproject.html%3fpid%3d185>)

A portion of the Sargeant Memorial Collection (SMC) will move to the Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch Library at 111 W. Ocean View Avenue, Norfolk, VA. (http://mapq.st/qZm4Us<https://webmail.norfolk.gov/owa/redir.aspx?C=3fb08b60eea0403394704c7f864fb010&URL=http%3a%2f%2fmapq.st%2fqZm4Us>) to provide public access to local history and genealogical materials during the interim. We are tentatively planning to reopen there on January 17, 2012, and will be open for research and consultation at that location until the new library is built. During this time, items from the SMC collection not at Pretlow will be retrievable from our repository collection at the Library Administration and Services Center.

Please check our online catalog and notify us at least a day before visiting which items you require so that we can have them for you at the Pretlow site.
