I have begun a transcription/database project on free
blacks from Norfolk starting in the 1820's. I've come
across a group of records called ended law causes.
Can anyone explain what they are in relation to other
court proceedings and records?

So far I've discovered individual free papers amongst
this group of records. They appear to be available
only at the courthouse and not at LVA. Incidentally,
these records were briefly mentioned in Tommy Bogger's
book on free blacks in Norfolk.

I'm trying to cover all bases in terms of documenting
the emancipation/manumission process from the 1820's
to the 1860's.
