During what time period? Richmond had a City Sergeant in the antebellum
era, and the Virginia Historical Society has some records related to that
officer (1841-1851). If I remember correctly, the Sergeant's duties
included running the city jail and serving warrants.

Subject: Roger Mallory, "Sergeant of Petersburg."

Hi again all,
I have another question, I hope it's alright!

A genealogy friend wants to know what "Sergeant of Peterbsurg" means. This
is in reference to Roger Mallory of Petersburg.

He is collateral family in my own tree, but this lady is a dscendant of
his.

 Thank you again,
           Beth
