I'm not familiar with any recent studies.

While working on a bio of John Rhodes, I found some information in
Moravian journals and Mennonite archives.
You might find the book Old Homes of Page County, Virginia, helpful.
It has lots of photos of the old homes and some of the family
artifacts from them as well as information about the families. There
is also a History of Mennonites in Virginia 1727-1900 by Anthony Brunk.

The old books Massanutten and Forerunners by Harry M. Strickler
might provide some interesting background.

Those books make me think once again of "The Miley Notes," about 100
pages of notes taken by Martin F. Miley in interviews with the old
settlers of the Valley and referenced in some of the early local
histories. I have cause to believe that at least one copy is still in
possession of his descendants but have never been able to locate a
complete copy or identify a precise person or archive with a copy.
anyone with a clue about these Notes?
