To take this a bit further,

The two major publications emanating from the Northern Neck are:

(1) The Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Magazine (1951-present), which are at LVA as well as many other repositories across the US and Europe (I will send the list of recipients by attachments for those who request it, reply to me in person)

(2) The VullBulletin of the Northumberland County Historical Society (1964--present).

There are comprehensive indexes to both magazines, up to 2003. A full and complete set of of the NNVHS issues is available for purchase, including the three "Swann" comprehensive indexes. The back issues of The Bulletin may be spotty.

I have catalogued both series on the Mary Ball Washington Museum & Library on-line catalog, which you can view at

mbwm.org

or a shortcut is this:

http://mbwm.org/search.asp

In the search box for MBW, type in for:

(1) Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Magazine for catalog to those issues

(2) Northumberland County, Bulletin [put in the comma, otherwise you will pull up everything relating to Northumberland County in the collection]

But, speaking of the mbwm.org catalog, the search engine is very good. As with most search engines, less is better. For example, typing in just "Northumberland" will pull up anything in our collection relating to that word.

And, also, I have been cataloging the collection of the Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society, which can be viewed here:

http://www.librarything.com/catalog/NNVHS

If there is any interest, I will be happy to write more about using these collections.

Last, the Northumberland County Historical Society does have a web site, but it is very limited. It is:

http://northumberlandvahistory.org/

They do not have an on-line catalog, and apparently are not interested in developing one. But speaking of them, today is their annual meeting and the guest speaker is our very own Camille Wells, at 2:30 at their headquarters in Heathsville. I am going, since I would never miss an opportunity to hear Camille Wells.

Issues of The Bulletin are held by the Mary Ball Washington Museum & Library in Lancaster, and the Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society in Montross.
