Everyone,

The next lunchtime brown bag lecture in the Year of Freedom series will be on Wednesday, November 28, from noon to 1pm, in the Forum Room of the Student Commons on VCU's Monroe Park campus (maps at VCU's website).

Willie Anne Wright, noted for her pinhole photography, will be showing a series of striking images from her series, "Civil War Redux." Currently, works in this series are featured as part of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts touring program. The images, taken from 1987-2000, show a variety of Civil War reenactors: men and women, whites and African Americans, Federals and Confederates, famous players and the lesser known, along with an occasional anachronistic detail. Willie Anne Wright will be bringing along her pinhole camera to show the audience and discuss her techniques.

This talk is free and open to the public.

Also, on Wednesday, 5 December, at 4 p.m. at the VCU Student Commons Theater, Maurice Jackson, of Georgetown University, will speak on "Why We Celebrate Anthony Benezet's Tercentenary along with the 150th of the Emancipation Proclamation." Dr. Jackson is the biographer of Anthony Benezet (1713-1784), a leading Quaker antislavery activist.

The lecture is sponsored by the Alexandrian Society and is also free and open to the public.

See you there.

John
