Private Papers Archivist
Library Specialist II

Minimum Salary $31,687

The Archival and Records Management Services Division of the Library of
Virginia is seeking an experienced Private Papers Archivist. This
position will be responsible for analyzing, describing, cataloging, and
preserving archival records collections in order to promote universal
patron access to the documentary heritage of the Commonwealth and its
citizens.   Daily responsibilities include ensuring the proper
identification, arrangement, description, and conservation of permanent
private papers using acceptable professional standards to ensure the
effective use of these records by the patrons of The Library of
Virginia.

Qualifications
*       Masters degree in U.S. History, Library Science, or related
field. 
*       Considerable knowledge of archival standards, theory, and
practice.
*       Knowledge of archival automation [EAD] and online cataloging
using MARC format. 
*       Knowledge of Virginia state and local history.
*       Working knowledge of standard archival conservation guidelines.
*       Demonstrated Research Skills.
*       Demonstrated ability to analyze, arrange, and describe
collections accurately.  
*       Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in
writing.
*       Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of a team.  
*       Formal training in archives administration preferred.
*       Experience as an archivist at an entry level preferred.
*       Must pass a security background check.
