Dear all,
In Spring 2017, VCU offered its first Digital History graduate course. As a
class project, we transcribed and annotated the will of Isaac Judah,
written before his death in 1827.

Please see the project here:
http://judahwill.rampages.us/

Judah was the first reader, or hazan, of Richmond's Congregation Beth
Shalome. He was also a merchant with extensive landholdings in town and
seven slaves. His will has much to offer regarding the history of African
Americans, women, neighborhood development, and Judaism in Virginia.
Our digital interface allows users to click on the names of individuals
mentioned in the will to see expanded biographies of them in an adjoining
frame. The site also provides a family tree, plot maps, brief essays on
topics reflected in the will, and textual analysis of the will's wording.

Please help us spread the word for this resource. We would appreciate any
feedback or suggestions for improvement. Many thanks to the Library of
Virginia and the Valentine archives for permission to show items from their
collections.
