Hubris!!! The idea that his "vision" transcends history and that his telling
of a story is more important than the facts. It's an arrogance of the
director who thinks those who don't "get it" are just unworthy, unwashed
masses. I believe it's what they call auteur, where the film is more a
reflection of the director, or his opinions, rather than an honest telling of
the story. Too bad Tom Hanks or Peter Weir didn't take on the project instead.

I have a feeling the new intro film for Jamestown Settlement being made by
Ernest Skinner will be light years better. It's a shame it couldn't be
expanded to a theatrical release. His first intro film told from the
perspective of carpenter, John Laydon, was very well done. If Ernest was
given the resources of Terrence Malick, it would be an awesome film.
