The City of Hopewell is looking for a city events coordinator.  Salary is based on experience.  This will remain open until filled.  A City of Hopewell application is needed for this and may be accessed at www.ci.hopewell.va.us.  The job involves developing/coordinating activities with organizations including the city council, department of tourism, National Park Service, public school system, chamber of commerce, Appomattox Regional Library System, Historic Hopewell Foundation, and civic, cultural, ethnic and other organizations to build programs and projects that broaden awareness of the significance of historic downtown Hopewell and the riverfront areas.  Essential responsibilities include:  produce special events for the city, develop activities focusing on tourism, economic development and educational opportunities.  Will be primary spokesperson for events and prepare print and electronic communications for local and statewide media.  Coordination of vendors, businesses, sponsors, entertainers, and special interest groups for all of the city's special events.  Prepares and coordinates publicity for events, event schedules, staff support, volunteer support, related equipment and materials.  Coordinates with city departments, conducts event evaluations.  Acts as a liaison between the city and the community.  Required to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.  Minimum education/experience:  completion of a bachelor's degree with three years experience in design, customer service, and special event planning.  Must possess valid Virginia driver's license.
