Anne:
Actually it was Varina , who after witnessing a relentless beating on the
young black child, Jim Limber, by a rather large black man, went and took him
away from that situation. Later Jefferson went and got the boys' free papers.
Jim & the Davis kids played very well together. The Davis's treated him like
their own and when the Union troops finally caught them
(It was pouring rain and Jefferson was to go out and talk to the men, Varina
tossed him a cloak which turned out to be hers, thus the crossdressing legend)
The Union General Rufus Saxton had Jim forcibly removed kicking & screaming
- never to be seen again.

I don't know how good a member of the con side I would be, after all the
positive info I have gathered. Would "Because Jesse Jackson , Al Sharpton & the
NAACP say so" have worked ?

 Thanx & God Bless
