I have found instances in which deeds for Richmond city property were
not recorded in the deed books, including a deed for a property that
Thomas Jefferson once owned. Remember that both Henrico County and
Richmond City had deed books, and both should be checked.

I came into the library on Saturday (and by the way - love the scanner
readers), and found something interesting concerning land deeds for our
house.
Richard Adams sold 1/2 acre to Charles Wills on Feb 28, 1811 seen in the
Henrico Deed Book but also mentions that it is adjoining the lot Wills
purchased from Adams on a deed bearing the date December 21, 1808... but
I did not see one right off? I know that there were deeds in 1805 for
property along Main Street but not for North 27th Street.
Could this 1808 deed not be registered in the deed books?
The sale also mentions that the property was across from Walter Shelton
but thought his house faced Broad Street, unless the land was the entire
300 block of N 27th as well? I know the Will's land ran the length of
the 400 block of N 27th but the house faces 27th.
