Civil War & Emancipation Day: the 150th Anniversaries
Saturday, April 16, 2011
10am-5pm

The Future of Richmond’s Past, a partnership of nearly 20 organizations,
presents the Second Annual Civil War & Emancipation Day: the 150th
Anniversaries. Come see YOUR history in action! From 10am-5pm, this FREE
citywide event will bring history to life throughout the city of Richmond,
Virginia. Special programs will be featured that explore this event in the
nation's history.

Cannon firing, free Canal Boat rides, historic interpreters, period music, a
marketplace and children's games, special exhibits, and artifact washing are
a few of the highlights available throughout the city. Experience guided
tours of the Richmond Slave Trail, Belle Isle, and Brown’s Island. Or,
relish in rarely offered admission to the Confederate Chapel and United
Daughters of the Confederacy General Headquarters at the Boulevard Campus.
Hop on a Segway for a free ride or take the 10K “Liberty Walk.” Free shuttle
transportation will be available throughout the city, departing from hubs at
Historic Tredegar, Maggie Walker National Historic Site, Lumpkin’s Jail Site
in Shockoe Bottom (at Main Street Station), and the Virginia Fine Arts
Museum / Virginia Historical Society/ campus along the Boulevard. For
details and updates, please visit www.futureofrichmondspast.org.
