For people interested in the Virginia Gazette, Richard Beale
Davis supervised a 1962 dissertation by William H. Castles,
Jr., at the University of Tennessee. The title
is "The 'Virginia Gazette,' 1736-1766: Its Editors,
Editorial Policies, and Literary Content," and it does a
very nice job of describing the material in the paper. Its
a very useful resource for those of us interested in
Virginia history.
