Dear Yojsouth:

Actually the last slave died either in the 1960s or early 1970s who was a 
young child at the end of slavery and was a centanarian plus when he/she died.   
I can't recall the specifics.   The last CW veteran died in the late 1950s and 
was a former Confederate soldier.   There are still children and 
grandchildren alive of both CW veterans and slaves especially from those men who took 
second and third wives when in their 60s-80s!   Being a woman was a morbidity 
handicap back in those days ;-(((
