Call for Papers: The Douglas Southall Freeman and Southern Intellectual
History Circle Conference, entitled "Virginia's Civil War and
Aftermath,1850-1900," will assemble at the University of Richmond,
Richmond,Virginia,  21-23 February, 2002.  Panels may cover such topics
as:pre-Civil War Virginia politics, military operations and leadership, race
relations in slavery and freedom, religious developments, civilian and
military morale during and after the war, issues of gender, family life, and
developments in letters and education.  Participants in need may anticipate
some financial assistance.  Graduate student participation is welcome along
with senior scholars.  Deadline 15 October.
