The next program in the Virginia Heritage Resource Center's Mining the
Treasure House lecture series will take place at noon on Tuesday, 13
September, 2005, in the conference rooms adjacent to the lobby in the
Library of Virginia at 800 East Broad Street in downtown Richmond. Laura
Drake Davis, state records archivist at the Library of Virginia will
prsent a talk entitled "Worms, Smokescreens, and Medicinal Whiskey: The
Records of the Virginia Prohibition Commission." She will use
illustrations from the records of the Virginia Prohibition Commission,
which existed from 1916 to 1934, to show how the commission functioned,
the challenges faced by the prohibition inspectors, and how prohibition
affected everyday life in the Commonwealth.
