You had better go and read a little bit more than one book regarding
Washington. I will more than happy to send you the Washington Coat of Arms.
COA's are not handed out as candy. You had to perform service to the Crown
or received the COA for something besides good looks.
Also, COA's are attributed to a specific person, not a family. Some
armigerous families did have multiple COA's but they were all specific to
the individual. NO FAMILY HAS A COA!
Definition of
Ar`mig´er`ous
a. 1. Bearing arms.
They belonged to the armigerous part of the population, and were entitled to
write themselves Esquire.
- De Quincey.

John Washington, the ships mate's father was a Colonel in the English Army.
This is possibly the source of the COA.
Try reading "Burke’s Peerage & Gentry International Register of Arms"

John,

I hate to burst your bubble, but if you read Henry Weincek's "An Imperfect
God", on page 26, you will read that George Washington's earliest ancestor
was John Washington who came to Northern Neck as a ship's mate, and married
well. I don't think having a coat of arms is all that big a deal. Hubby's
family has one. They were farmers. The main thing about the Washington's is
that they seem to have had a pechant for "marrying up", including George, to

the aristocratic Custis family. And, for the record, Martha Custis
Washington had a black half-sister.

So, let's all put our shoes back on, and just enjoy the lusty stories of our

forebears!

Anne
