In the 1800s an agricultural craze gripped the world - a demand for
Merino wool. For centuries Spain closely guarded her flocks of Merino
sheep, but in 1802 US Minister to Spain David Humphreys successfully
imported some Merinos. Today's blog entry highlights an 1827 letter with
its enclosed sample of Merino wool sent by William DuVal to Willis
Cowling.
