All people interested in Virginia history will be saddened to learn of
the death of Sara B. Bearss of cancer early in the morning of 13
February 2012. From 1984 to 2000 she was the managing editor of the
Virginia Magazine of History and Biography at the Virginia Historical
Society and since 2000 the senior editor of the Dictionary of Virginia
Biography at the Library of Virginia. She was the very best editor ever
and the best friend of everybody who worked with her.

We will always remember the famous tag line that she appended to her
e-mail messages, "Friends don't let friends split infinitives."
