And, I am prejudiced by my birth in Ohio, my childhood in PA, and my
adulthood in Virginia. And, undoubtedly because I've been doing some
genealogical digging into my ancestors in PA, exploring new stories for
students for Black History Month, and stumbling over some interesting
connections in the Underground Railroad from Petersburg up to Lancaster,
Pa, next county over from my ancestors who began arriving in the 1750's, I
am also prejudiced by current readings.

Understandings of the causes of events should be as free from prejudice as
possible. The South may have waxed poetic and songful about being invaded,
but the events suggest otherwise to me. I have no known ancestors who
fought in the Civil War. Apparently they just went on farming those four
years.
