The Library of Virginia is pleased to announce the availability of the
genealogical files in the Nan Overton West Papers for patron research.
These research files were the principal resource material Nan West used to
write THE WESTS AND THE RAYS AND ALLIED LINES: SOUTHERN FAMILIES FROM THE
COLONIES TO TEXAS and THE OVERTONS: 700 YEARS WITH ALLIED FAMIILIES FROM
VIRGINIA, KENTUCKY, AND TEXAS.

The papers contain detailed information concerning the Overton, West, and
Ray families and allied families.  Research files exist for the following
Overton allied family surnames: Bickley, Booker, Bosley, Briscoe, Brockman,
Brooks, Burch, Carr, Clough, Crook, Farrar, Gardiner, Garland, Garnett,
Gerard, Glover, Grundy, Harratt, Harris, Howerton, Jennings, Jewell, Lawson,
Leake, McCarty, Muscoe, Poindexter, Shipp, Slye, Swain, Taylor, Terrell,
Waters, and Whitworth. West allied family surnames are: Ashley, Berry,
Boatner, Culver, Egner, Martin, Norris, Sanford, Smith, Swain, Ward, and
Wyatt. Ray allied family surnames include: Caldwell, Culpepper, Dean,
Gillespie, Grant, Harrison, Lee, Peek, Richards, Tatum, Wyatt, and Young.

To access the finding aid, visit the Library of Virginia's homepage at
<http://www.lva.lib.va.us/>, click on "What We Have," then click on
"Archives and Manuscripts Catalog," do a keyword search for Nan Overton
West, then select the "hit" for Nan Overton West, you will be taken to the
catalog record for the collection.  If you then select "Finding Aid" at the
top of the screen, you will be taken to a container listing and more
complete description of the collection.
