Everyone,

Please join author Thomas W. Howard for a discussion of his new book,

The Dixie Dictionary: An Introduction to the Southern Language

tomorrow, Wednesday, 10 July 2002, at noon at the Library of Virginia in
Historic Downtown Richmond.

Bring your lunch; soft drinks will be provided.

Howard, a retired journalist, has collected and studied southern words and
phrases for some 30 years. The book is a word-lover's delight (I cannot set
it down). It is educational (I learned that because a "hissy" is a fit, when
I say "hissy fit," I am being redundant). It is amusing (my stomach is
really "table muscle"). And, it will enhance your vocabulary (the front log
in the fireplace is the "forestick," and fruit that is just barely ripe is
"rareripe").

You'll say that you ain't had so much fun since the hogs et grandma.

For more information, please call 804-692-3592.

John
