 UPCOMING PROGRAMS - NOW TAKING REGISTRATIONS
 
Following are upcoming programs at Bull Run Regional Library related to local history and genealogy.  Regular times for monthly programs (Genealogy Resources Users Group) are the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December) at 7:30 p.m.  Group programs are held in the Library's community room.  Sign language interpretation of library programs is available if requested three weeks in advance.  Funding for RELIC programs is supported by grants from the Friends of the Central and Bull Run Libraries.  
 
Tuesday August 23 - Progressing to Europe.
Tuesday September 27 - Uncommon Sources.
Thursday September 29 - RELIC research trip to Washington, DC.
The Genealogy Doctor is In - Thursdays, August 18; September 1, 15.

PROGRESSING TO EUROPE:  A GERMAN EXAMPLE
 
Learn what's needed to locate your European ancestor before you cross the Atlantic.  Learn which records lead to his/her place of birth, and about alternative records to try if the "usual sources" aren't available.  Sample the use of maps, gazetteers and common web sites.  Examine a record.  This program will be presented by Carol Whitton, coordinator of the Fairfax County Genealogical Society's German Special Interest Group.

        Victor S. Dunn, CGRS, will present an overview of the nature, availability and location of some family history sources beyond probate, census, deeds and vital statistics.

RELIC RESEARCH TRIP TO WASHINGTON, D.C.

RELIC's fifth annual research bus trip is now scheduled for Thursday September 29.  A full-size luxury tour bus has been reserved for this day to take us from Bull Run Regional Library in Manassas to Washington, D.C., to visit the Daughters of the American Revolution Library, the National Archives, and the Library of Congress.  You will be delivered to the research center of your choice.  You may stay at one facility for the entire day or, if you choose, be transported at midday to another location.   RELIC staff will be on hand at each location to provide some assistance.  The bus will pick up passengers from 4 (at DAR) to 4:30 (at LOC) for the return to Manassas.  The fee for this trip is $23 (does not include lunch or DAR admission).   Early registration is advised.  Registrations after September 21 (if space is still available) will be $25. Reservations require a check made out to Prince William Public Library System (PWPLS), sent to RELIC at Bull Run Regional Library, 8051 Ashton Avenue, Manassas, VA 20109-2892.
