Some perspective on Carter's Grove. It was in private hands before
CW--in better times--purchased it. I believe it has always been in
private hands. In fact, most if not all the James River plantations
along Route 5 are still privately owned, especially Shirley which is
still in the original family. These great plantation manors have not
fared so ill over the years, due mainly to the efforts of the owners
to preserve them. Perhaps Carter's Grove will fare as well. But it
all depends on the buyer.

Granted CW is being short-sighted in selling it. But who would be so
foolish as to build condos within sight of such a great house?
