Organology is a passion for many, but shared by few. J W Walker installed quite a few organs in Australia as well. I noted more German influence in the US from various bits and pieces of my interest in missionary history. There is a bit of German influence in South Australia, settled in part by Lutheran pietists who emigrated from what is now Poland.

While I am online, if anyone happens to know anything about Lydia Mary Fay, who worked as a governess in Essex Country, generally around Alexandria and the Tappahannock area from 1939-1849, I would be delighted to hear from you. She worked for the Dulany and Carter families, and later was principal of a small school for elite white young ladies in the home of Dr. Jefferson Minor.
She was originally from Vermont, educated in Albany NY, and was originally a Presbyterian. She became an Episcopalian (Christ Church. Alexandria, 1844). Mary Fay later joined the Episcopal Mission in Shanghai China. She died in Chefoo, China in 1878.

Apart from Miss Fay, I am keen to learn as much as possible about the Dulany, Carter and Jefferson Minor connections in the preCivil War period. Personal letters are the real jewels in the crown, if possible.

Enjoy the cold weather we are seeing in today's international media, folks. This week has been well above 100 degree temperatures across Southern Australia with bushfires raging everywhere. On the other hand, really heavy monsoon rains and the usual cyclones (tornados in US, I think) across the North.

Greetings from the excessively sunny south,

Ian Welch
