Greetings All!

The Surry County Historical Society is proud to host a book-signing for Divine Will, Restless Heart, a new biography of John Jefferson Smallwood by Mary E.C. Drew, at the Society's Office in Surry, VA, on Saturday, November 13, 12:00 PM to 2:00PM. Dr. Smallwood founded a private school for African-Americans at the dawn of the twentieth century. It is estimated that more than a thousand young people were educated at his school at Claremont, VA. His achievements were amazing, given the adverse circumstances under which he labored.

Please join us on November 13, at our Office in Surry and learn about this important aspect of Surry's hidden history. There is a location map at our website.
