What began as a potentially interesting discussion of when or whether
"African American" is an approriate term to use in discussing aspects of
American history generated some inappropriate messages to the list this
weekend. Several subscribers posted messages that did not much advance
the discussion, and some others posted messages that were to the point.
After some thought, I wish to suggest that for the nonce we let this
subject lie fallow.
