Hi Scott. Last year sometime I sent my name and e-mail address to the
Jamestown 2007 Anniversary Committee.

I am descended from Ambrose COBBS whose mother was Angelica HUNT. Angelica
(HUNT) COBBS' (Angelica HUNT's husband married Ambrose COBBS, both of Kent
England) brother was The Right Rev. Robert HUNT who was the first rector of
Jamestown. Robert and his other brothers (Stephen and William) were not on
the first ship, but the second that arrived in 1607. Stephen may have been
on the They brought over the rest of the Church and more supplies.
Besides being the first rector of Jamestown, Robert baptized Pocahontas and
other Powhatans. This friendship afforded our COBBS, HUNT, and related
families safety and safe traveling mercies among the Native Peoples in that
area. Over time, our COBBS intermarried with many of Pocahontas
descendents.

My ancestor, Ambrose COBBS and his wife Anne WHITE and related families came
to what is now referred to as Colonial Williamsburg. They arrived here in
1665 and brought the Anglican Church of England here. They built the Bruton
Church there, as well as the nearby Marston Church. The names of Ambrose
along with many of my ancestors and related family are listed on the plaques
that line church walls. Over time, their bones had been reentered under the
center isle of this church.

Cousin Randy and List,

As a former Virginia 2007 Community coordinator and a current member of the
Jamestown 2007 Speakers Bureau, I'm more than a little concerned about the
impression that nothing is happening with the upcoming anniversary.

The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is doing much more than offering
membership in a "1607 Society."

As the organization designated by the Commonwealth to spearhead the 400th
anniversary events, it is working closely with the Jamestown Federal
Commission, over 100 local governments, and scores of organizations to plan
events throughout Virginia in 2007.

As the web site says, there will be "18 months of Festivities, 10 Signature
Events, Hundreds of Community Projects and Commemorative Programs" beginning
in May of 2006 with a promotional sail of the "Godspeed" to Alexandria,
Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, Boston, and Newport (ending in July). It
is no coincidence that the Godspeed Sail will hit the primary media markets
on the East Coast.

For more information on these not insignificant activities, please visit:

A member of the Jamestown 2007 Speakers Bureau can be dispatched to give a
presentation at community events and club meetings by filling out this
request form:
