The current issue of The New Yorker (Sept 3 & 10, pp. 106ff) has what
looks like a fascinating article about the 1985 auction (for about
$157,000) of a bottle of French wine allegedly consigned to Jefferson and
what appears to be the subsequent investigations of what may have been
fraud . . . Issue just arrived - haven't read the entire article.
